Winter School for Women 2024

International Centre for Free and Open Source Solutions (ICFOSS) is an autonomous organization set up by the Government of Kerala, has a combined mandate of popularizing Free and Open Source Software for universal use; consolidating the early FOSS work done in Kerala; and networking with different nations, communities, and Governments to collaboratively promote FOSS. ICFOSS is the outcome of a decade of work by Free Software enthusiasts, advocates, developers, and supporters in the state of Kerala and outside. ICFOSS today carries out a number of FOSS-related activities in a model that brings together Academia, Industry, Government, and the FOSS Community. ICFOSS is organising its fifth edition of 12 day long residential program, Winter School 2024 on “Natural Language Processing and Large Language Models”. The program will feature sessions on FOSS awareness and gender issues in technology and is intended for post-graduate students, research scholars, faculty members, and professionals from industry. The Winter School sessions are project-oriented, which means the content covers practical concepts with theoretical knowledge. This talks and workshops will go hand in hand to deliver an immersive learning experience. The last date to apply for the program is 20th of January 2024.

Objectives

  • To introduce participants to the fundamentals of NLP and its evolution into Generative NLP.
  • To delve into the core concepts of Recurrent Neural Networks (RNN), Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), Attention Models, and Transformers.
  • To explore advanced topics such as Prompt Engineering and LangChain.
  • To provide hands-on experience in LLM and its applications, fine-tuning large language models.

Target Audience

Research Scholars/Post Graduate students, Teachers and Professionals from IT field are the targeted audience of the Winter School. The program is reserved for Women Candidates and the number of seats is limited to 30.

Prerequisites

To learn large language models, one should have a solid foundation in programming, especially in Python and Machine learning.

Course Delivery

The program will be conducted through a combination of lectures, hands-on workshops and practical exercises. Participants will have access to the latest NLP tools and resources, and will be encouraged to apply knowledge through practical projects.
